Help! My Reward Chart Is Not Working

So, you are expecting the Reward Chart to work like charm, but it didn’t!? You look forward to improving your kid’s behavior but you always disappointed. Whether it is refusal to attend school, eat vegetables or tooth brushing, you are frustrated and helpless. To help you, I had listed down a guide to ensure you are on the right track.

Are you ready? Let’s get started.

1. Is your Reward Chart attractive? People need grooming and so do reward charts. Download four free exciting themes from my website and get your kid excited. Kids will not take a second look if it does not appeal to them. What about your stickers? Isn’t it a great idea if you have matching sticker to the chart’s theme? Make some effort to get your kid’s favorite Pooh bear stickers so that she will be longing to see the stickers on the chart. Hoooray! Half the battle is won!

2. Were your expectations realistic? What about expecting your 3 year old to make her own milk!? You may have expectation on improving certain behavior but ensure it is age appropriate and realistic. Provide guidance and care to help your kid to achieve the stickers – at least the first few so that your kid will know how the chart works.

3. Where did you locate the chart? Never file the chart. If you will not see or remember it, why would your kid right? Do not let it collect dust or allow granny to fold paper airplane out of it. Laminate it or place it in a clear file and paste it at the bedroom wall. It has to be prominent to remind both you and your kids that the project is on!

4. Did you explain to your child when you first implement the reward chart? So, the chart and the stickers looks good. But the reward chart looks new to you as it is to your kid. Find some coffee time and get your child on your lap to explain on how it works and what expectations you have in terms of improvement of behavior. Be specific and ensure your explanation and expectations are age appropriate.

5. Do you provide rewards everyday whether it rain, shine or thunderstorm? Kids have relatively short memory. You must have a daily Reward Chart and stickers are to be rewarded everyday – preferably at bedtime when you can chat and review her behavior on that particular day and instantly reward the stickers.

6. To help your child to achieve the stickers, you will need to guide her. Ensure that you explain to her the nutrient fruits and vegetables provide and make the food interesting. Show her the kids theme food pyramid. Talk about non-achievement and provide guidance on how your kid can achieve it tomorrow!

In conclusion, both you and your child will need to devote some time and effort to make the Reward Chart a success!
