Tatting Pattern

Are Greek Key Tattoos The Best Greek History Has To Offer??

The research can be a bit of a pain, but this little blurb should help you get started.

Greek key tattoos are frequently popular among surfers.  This repeating pattern of blocked out waves and are commonly inked around the ankles and wrists.  If you want this pattern, consider using it with some other imagery as well.

Try searching through online databases, and books on Greek mythology, and classic art.  You can download and print out a more unique design in minutes.  If you are up to the challenge, you can combine a few images to make something that is truly one of a kind.

Mythology – Tats of The Gods!

There is a sizable selection of Greek Gods and Goddesses which make for some great designs.

Zeus – Power- God of thunder, lightning, and the ruler of Olympus.  When you have Zeus inked on your chest, you are making one heck of a statement.

Hades –Death- Lord of the underworld.  If you want to keep try to the mythology, remember that he is not a bad guy, but he certainly look intimidating.

Poseidon –Power of the Sea – also associated with horses.

Apollo –Sun-  Usually looks a lot younger than most of the other male Gods.  Apollo represents light, healing, prophecy, poetry, and various other arts.

Aphrodite – Love- This is usually a more popular design for women.

Using Greek Key Tattoos

As a border where another design is overlapping at some points, this key can really make your tattoo pop out (in a good way).

This ornamental pattern is constantly used to border other images and architecture.  In ink, a Greek key tattoo which is drawn in a circle can symbolize the unending cycle of life.

Keep in mind – though it is usually refered to as the Greek key, this pattern can be seen all throughout a variety of other great cultures.  Consider mixing it in with Celtic tattoo designs like knots and crosses, or using it to embroider chinese tattoo designs like dragons or spirits.

You can also use key tattoos to underline or sandwich in a message.

Just like Kanji characters, you can use the Greek alphabet to write a message which means something to you.

The symbol for Omega can make a great frame, and it wouldn’t take much to have it drawn with the Greek key.
