yarny me

Hi! My name is Casey, and I live happily in eastern Michigan with my boyfriend, Woody, and my two troublemaking cats, Phoebe and Phaedra. I’m a full-time student at Eastern Michigan University, pursuing a degree in biology, after 15 years of “just thinking about it”. I also sell handknit items on Etsy, when I have time to knit them- gotta pay for those expensive textbooks, you know! - and occasionally jot down simple patterns to share with the knitting public, because it’s fun and keeps me out of trouble. (Mostly.)

I learned to knit in May 2002, when a dear friend (who, incidentally, didn’t really know how to knit at the time) taught me how to cast on and do a knit stitch. By the end of my 2-week visit in London, I had figured out purling, decreasing, and binding off, and I’d knit myself a purse. I started a knitting blog almost immediately after that. The rest, of course, is history. :)

summer harvest continues

Contrary to the popular belief of people who know me, I DO have obsessions other than knitting. A big one - or two, that go hand-in-hand - are gardening and canning. I grew up with parents who always had a vegetable garden, and I have fond memories of Mom’s homemade pickles and relishes. I’ve continued both traditions since 1994, even though my space on both fronts is currently quite limited, and I have a book in the development stages. I also am absolutely batty about vintage clothing and jewelry, vintage knitting patterns, antique things, estate/yard sales, hiking, camping, getting tattoos, road trips, photography, baking and cooking, old cars, festivals, fairs, live music, local color, and a whole bunch of other things that I’m sure I’m not thinking to mention.

So… that’s me in a nutshell (or not so much so)… thanks for stopping by, and I hope you’ll come back again!
